Michael Maurice Keohane, age 83, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021. Michael was born August 9, 1938 in Bronx, New York to the late, Michael Keohane and Josephine Lenahan Keohane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Keohane, James Keohane and Denis Keohane.
In 1955, Michael enlisted in the Co M 3rd Battalion 107th Regiment of the New York National Guard. He entered active service in the United States Army in1956. In 1957, he was assigned to the Co 32d Inf Regt 7th Inf stationed in Korea. 1958, he took another assignment to the 2d Ranger Co Ranger Mountain Camp, as an instructor. Michael, re-enlisted in 1959 for 6 years. In 1960, he was assigned to Company B, Third Division Brigade, 6th Infantry Berlin Brigade. He was reassigned in 1963 for the rest of his tenure to Fort Devens MA, Co B 2nd Battalion 2nd Division Infantry Regiment. During his military career, he received in 1959, his First Good Conduct medal, in 1962, his Second Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Commendation from the 6th Infantry and his Expert M-14 Rifle Medal.
Michael was a graduate of Saint Simon Stock in the Bronx. In 1956, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from St. Francis College. After his military career, he attended and graduated with his MBA, in 1971 from Saint John’s University of New York. In1975, he obtained his Jurisprudence (JD) from Fordham University. He became a registered attorney in the State of New York in 1980. He served as a hearing officer of the New York State Division of Veteran Affairs and as an administrative law judge for the New York State Department of Social Service, retiring in 2001.
Michael loved cooking. Some of his favorite dishes were, Pot Roast, Gumbo, and Irish Soda Bread. He loved visiting family- especially his many nieces and nephews and his Grand nieces and nephews. Michael loved adventure, he went Sky Diving twice in 2010 and 2011, though his height made exiting the plane interesting. He also enjoyed walking multiple times a day when able. Michael was a proud member of the United States Mountain Ranger Association Berlin United States Military Veterans Association (Berlin Brigade) Ramrods and the VFW Post 2913 American Legion Post #1060.
Michael is survived by his, brother, John Keohane, sisters, Margaret Keohane and Veronica Keohane; sister-in-law, Rapheala Keohane; a host of nieces and nephews.
And many nieces and nephews.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from two until four o'clock in the afternoon and from seven until nine o'clock in the evening on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at ten thirty in the morning on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at The Cathedral of Incarnation, 2015 West End Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
A Graveside Service will be held at twelve noon on Tuesday, December 22, 2021 at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, TN 37221.
