Pinson graduated Hillsboro High School in 1959 and Vanderbilt University in 1963 with a B.A. in Business and Minor in Insurance. Upon graduation, he did a 4-year tour in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return he immediately started his insurance career assisting his mother, who was carrying on the firm after the death of Maurice’s father in 1952. This was the beginning of a long and fruitful insurance career.
In the mid 1970’s Pinson & Associates Insurance Agency was created. Pinson has served with distinction as a leader in the Tennessee Insurance community for the past 50 yrs. During this time he has practiced insurance with Cooper, Love & Jackson and then in 1999 joining his dear friend, Jerry Fridrich (now deceased) and Chip Fridrich to form Fridrich, Pinson & Associates. Pinson also operated Transport Specialties which served a niche transportation market.
He is a Past President of the Insurors of Tennessee and Insurors of Nashville along with holding numerous other offices within these organizations. In 2013 Pinson was honored as “Tennessee Insuror of the Year” by the Insurors, the highest honor bestowed on a member. Pinson was instrumental in the founding and development of InsBank.
As the father of a special needs child, Pinson used his position in the community to assist those with special needs and their families. Some of his most rewarding work was the giving of his time, talents and treasures to many worthwhile organizations which included Special Olympics Tennessee, Progress, Inc. Easter Seals, Outlook Nashville, Open Arms Care and its Foundation, Tom Joy Elementary and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a dedicated member of Woodmont Christian Church and a member of Richland Country Club for 42 years.
Maurice was predeceased in death by wife Karole (Buchanan) and his beloved son, George Jeffrey who met an untimely death at the age of 41.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean (Cline); children Bill (Audra) Pinson, Leigh (Robbie) Sinks, four grandchildren, Tyler Sinks, Andrew Sinks, Gracie Sinks, and Will Pinson; and his wife’s children, Tyson (Tabitha) Tune, Jamie Anne (Nathan) Steakley and one grandchild, Theodore Spencer Tune; siblings Joan (late David) Cullum and Jere (Al) Phillips and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 3:30–6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26, 2019 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at Woodmont Christian Church Gathering Hall followed by a 3:00 p.m. Memorial in the Sanctuary with Pastor Clay Stauffer officiating. Private Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
