Mary Tom Wilson Herndon was born April 21, 1919 in Sumner County to Maie Spears Lindsley Wilson and Thomas Black Wilson Jr. She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Hayden Herndon who she married in September of 1946.
She is survived by her children, Mary Lewis Golden, Owen Wilson Herndon (Dianne) and Thomas Edward Herndon (Debbie), six grandchildren, Will and Lewis Golden, Owen Herndon, Mary Kim, Albert Herndon and Brian Knaub.
A graduate of Gallatin High School in 1937, Mary Tom attended Tennessee College for Women in Murfreesboro. In 1942, Mary Tom graduated from Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
She began her volunteer work at St. Luke’s Community Center and was an active volunteer for the This and That shop for over 30 years.
She was a member of the Junior League of Nashville, The Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee, Centennial Club, Four Seasons Garden Club and the Auxillary of the West End Home for Ladies. She was a longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church.
