Mary Pigg Harnett was born in Maury County, TN on October 23, 1918 and died at her home in Nashville, TN on June 26, 2019. Mary was 100 years old. Preceded in death by her Husband, H. Hayes Hartnett, Mother Noi Woolard Pigg, Father Charles Eugene Pigg, Brothers C. Eugene Pigg, Jr., Robert Nelson Pigg and Edgar Woolard Pigg and Sister Addie Pigg Martin.
Survived by ten Nieces and Nephews, 14 Grand Nieces and Nephews and several step Grandchildren. Mary graduated from Hume-Fogg High School (1935) and Vanderbilt University (1939). She became a private Pilot in 1941 and later earned her commercial Pilot’s license and Flight Instructor rating. During World War II she gave Army Aviation Students their first 10 hours instruction in the air.
She also taught Aviation Subjects in Ground School. She was a member of the former New Century Club and Forest Acres Garden Club. She became a nationally accredited Flower Show Judge with a Master’s Certificate. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Nashville, Daughters of the American Revolution and Gateway Acres Garden Club. She was a long time member of West End United Methodist Church.
