Mary was born on April 4, 1938, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Rex A. Turner, Sr. and Opal Shipp Turner. She attended Alabama Christian College and graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1958. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Philip Hargis, and started a family. She was a loving mother and a meticulous homemaker. When she joined the workforce, she chose Christian education, and worked for 29 years as an administrative assistant at Lipscomb University. Being raised in a family immersed in Christian education, her faith was the foundation of the beautiful life she built.
Mary will always be remembered for her sweet demeanor and smile, the love and care she gave her family, the hymns she carried on her lips, and the way she lived every day of her life looking forward to the promise of Heaven. May she now rest in eternal peace.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Daniel Hargis, Sr.; parents, Rex A. Turner, Sr. and Opal Shipp Turner; sister, Jacqueline Turner Long; and brother, Rex A. Turner Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Faulkner (Leo); her son, Philip Hargis, Jr.; grandchildren, Morgan Darnell (Brandon), Brooke Faulkner, and Alexa Swartz (Ben); five great-grandchildren, Turner, Luke, Leo Kate, Sam, and Gray; and sister-in-law, Barbara Turner.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Stones River Manor Assured Care, where Mary lived her last years in the next best place to Heaven.
A memorial service for Mary Hargis will be conducted Saturday, August 3, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation preceding from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville, Tennessee. Memorial donations may be made to Amridge University in Montgomery, Alabama or Stones River Manor in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
