Luanna Parrish Hunt, age 95, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was born December 24, 1921 in Nashville, TN to the late Jessie Ammerman Parrish and William Harman Parrish Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Northern Hunt Sr. of Old Hickory TN, her sister Jessie Elizabeth Parrish Steensland and her nephew Collins Eric Steensland Jr. She is survived by two sons, Joe (Julia) N. Hunt, Jr. (Nashville) and William (Sari) Parrish Hunt (Nashville), one grandson, William Parrish Hunt, Jr. (Nashville) and one nephew Bill (Linda) Steensland (Johnsville, Ohio).She graduated from David Lipscomb College (Junior College Diploma) in 1941 and George Peabody College for Teachers (B.S.) 1943 and (Master of Arts) in 1950. Luanna taught elementary students at David Lipscomb Elementary and Robertson Academy for six years, and later served as a substitute teacher within the Metro Nashville School system.She was also a proud alumnus of Clemons School of Nashville. In 1988, she and three other alumni organized the Clemons school reunion for classes of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Luanna was very active in several local garden club organizations. She was a long standing member of the Iris City Garden Club (Nashville), serving as its President from 1983 to 1985 and 1995 to 1997. She also belonged to the Ikebana International Chapter 5 (Nashville), serving as its First Vice President in 2002. She was a Life Member of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs. Luanna served more than 30 years as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Baptist Hospital (St. Thomas Midtown, Nashville). Luanna was a devoted Christian who enjoyed teaching second graders in Sunday school. She was a member of Waverly Belmont Church of Christ in her early years, Hillsboro Church of Christ most of her adult life and Granny White Pike Church of Christ in her final years. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who spent their time caring for Luanna, especially Niece, Jenelle, Pat, Ronda and Sandra. Special thanks also to the staff and nurses of Alive Hospice. We also thank countless friends who took time to send cards and visit with Luanna in her final months.Gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from four o’clock to seven o’clock at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. Celebration of life service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with visitation one hour prior to the service.
