JUDY ELAINE GRAVES – AGE 68 of Nashville. Judy passed away on June 24 of metastatic sarcoma. She was born February 13, 1946, in Nashville, TN. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred Richmond Graves and Mattielou Boehms Graves. In addition, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Gustavus Henry and Lena Richmond Graves and Herbert Bratton and Lena Short Boehms; her brother, James Henry Boehms; and her sister Mary Ann Graves Dudley. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Tove Rawlings; her nephews Richard V. Dudley (Amy Dixon) of Nashville, Mark Graves (Cherie) of Clarksville, Phillip Graves (Jackie) of Statesville, NC, John Rawlings of Joelton. She is survived by nieces Deborah Cannon (David) of Bowling Green, KY, Jamie Graves of Nashville, and Dr. Eva Rawlings Parker (Stephen) of Franklin. She is blessed to also have many cousins who have meant so much throughout her life and was fortunate to have as her caregiver, LouElla Bass. Judy also leaves her much beloved Cairn terrier, Bogie.
Judy graduated from Peabody Demonstration School (USN) in 1964 and Peabody College of Vanderbilt in 1968. She also completed her master’s degree in administration and supervision in education. She spent her career in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools as a classroom teacher. Judy was a person of many interests and projects, which led to her love of genealogy. She belonged to West End United Methodist Church, the DAR (French Lick Chapter), Country Homes Garden Club, Cheekwood, and had been a member of the State Board of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs. The family would like to thank the many friends who have lifted her up with prayers and other acts of kindness. In addition, we thank the many wonderful doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt’s Ingram Cancer Institute. Visitation will be held 11am-1pm on Saturday June 28th at Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home with a Memorial Service beginning at 1pm.
