Judith Bemis Poindexter

POINDEXTER, Mrs. Judith Bemis – age 86, died in Nashville December 20, 2011. Born September 12, 1925 in Paxton, MA of Earl and Carrie Fay Bemis. Judith graduated in 1954 from the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration. She married John Poindexter, retired Vice Chancellor of Vanderbilt University on September 21, 1974, who preceded her in death on February 1, 2011. Judith had a distinguished career in the Human Resources field. She was personnel manager and Vice President of Personnel between 1954 to 1974 for the Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company, Boston, MA. She owned an executive recruiting business, Poindexter and Associates in Nashville, TN from which she retired in 1993. A favorite aunt of her many nieces and nephews, she instilled in them a love of reading with Christmas gifts of books. Judith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three older siblings, Barbara Rogers, Lester Bemis and Elizabeth Tibbetts, and a nephew Michael Bemis. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, her brother Ted Bemis of Waynesboro, VA, and her sister-in-law Helene Bemis of Sugar Grove, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m. on Thur., Dec. 22, 2011 at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway Ave., Nashville, TN and on Friday, Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mason, TN. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mason, TN after the service. Memorials may be made to Christ Church Cathedral or Trinity Episcopal Church, Mason, TN.
