BISHOP, Joseph Dyches –Age 60, passed away May 30, 2011, at home surrounded by family and loved ones after a hard fought battle with prostate cancer. Joe was a devoted communicant at Christ the King Catholic Church in Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1969, and graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1973. Joe was a professional engineer for more than thirty-five years most recently working for CTI Engineers, Incorporated, where he was Senior Vice President. Throughout his career, Joe received countless awards and accolades, including the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers “Young Engineer of the Year” award in 1984, the Kentucky-Tennessee section of the American Public Works Association’s “Kenneth J. Miller Water for People – Outstanding Service Award, and in 2008, the “George Warren Fuller” award for distinguished service to the water supply field. Also known as “Big Dog” and “Papa Joe,” Joe always had a smile on his face. He routinely entertained family and friends with his rendition of “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.” Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Clarke and Helen Dyches Bishop of Memphis, Tennessee. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Pagan Bishop, his children, Kevin Thomas Bishop (Emily), Laura Wentling Bishop, Julie Elaine Trzil (Ben), Sarah Elizabeth Bishop, and Jana B. Coss, grandchildren, Thomas Joseph Bishop (Kevin) and Olivia Grace Elder (Jana), brothers and sisters, Laura B. Middleton (John), Beth B. McQueen (Mike), Billy Bishop, Leigh Packard, Alan Bishop, and Robert Felix Bishop, mother and father-in-law, Martha and Dan Pagan, brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel Pagan, Jr., Debbie Robinson (Gary), and Scott Pagan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews throughout the United States. Active Pallbearers: John Dixon, KC Wagner, Gary Robinson, David Bibee, Kevin Bishop, Matt Hayden, Ken Sheesley, and Dan Hinkle. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Anthony Meluch, M.D., Barry Coggins, Chris Heringer, Dave Kuhlman, Gary Cosby, Jerry Hightower, Ron Denes, Josh Bishop, Mark Moshea, Tom Atchley, Mike Bartlett, and Carey Griffin. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3001 Belmont Blvd, Nashville, TN, Father Dexter Brewer celebrant, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall at Christ the King Catholic Church, with a Celebration of Life immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s honor to Catholic Charities of Tennessee and The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.
