John Wilson Mullen

He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Thrasher Mullen; sons, John David (Lisa) Mullen, Roswell, GA, Jason Robert (Hope) Mullen, Brookhaven, GA, Matthew Thomas (Sarah) Bradford, Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Anna Kate Mullen, Brooks Davis Mullen, Asher Wilson Mullen and one nephew, Tim Cox and family, Ennis TX, niece Stephanie Hensel and nephews Mark and Michael Clemens of Greensburg, PA.

Mr. Mullen was born June 23, 1947 in Latrobe, PA and is preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Elizabeth Belle McCracken Mullen.

Mr. Mullen served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Mullen was President & CEO of Direct General Ins. He previously served as President of Unitrin, Inc. (Kemper), Unitrin Specialty, Dallas, TX, President of Financial Indemnity Company, Los Angeles, CA, and President/Senior VP-Claims & Operations, Windsor Ins. Group, Atlanta, GA.

Mr. Mullen was the recipient of the 2016 Griffith Foundation Career Achievement Award and the 1997 & 1998 recipient of the Unitrin President’s Award for achieving highest growth/profit ratio for the Property & Casualty Group.

Mr. Mullen was a 1969 graduate of Bethany College, Bethany, WV where he received his Bachelor’s degree and a 1982 graduate of CPCU Society. He was a member of Hillwood Country Club and a member of the Board of Trustees of Bethany College (2008-2022), Prior President of the Society of CPCU Dallas Chapter, Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Board of Directors of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the Advisory Board of the Property Casualty Insurers Association.

Mr. Mullen Coached baseball for 20 years in Marietta, GA. He was the President of Eastside Baseball and was part of the formative years of East Cobb Baseball where he helped coach three national championship teams in 1985, 86 and 87.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, at The Hills Nashville Church, 120 Belle Forest Circle, Nashville, TN 37221. Pastor John Ragsdale will officiate. Gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 AM until time of service. Refreshments will be served. The memorial service will be livestreamed. For those unable to attend virtually, afterwards, a file of the full service will be available for viewing.
