Jerry Dan Hughes, age 74, passed away on October 14, 2014. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edmundson Hughes. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Gayle Womack Hughes; mother, Eva “Polly” Hughes of Pulaski, Tennessee; 3 daughters, Lisa (Tim) Dean of Cookeville, TN, Katherine (John) Way of Spartanburg, SC and Emily (Lucas) Wolfe of Franklin, TN; 11 grandchildren, Betsy, Benjamin, Christopher and Jonathan Dean, Alan, Suzannah, Tabitha, Joshua and Ethan Way, Della and Joseph Wolfe; 2 brothers, Terry (Royce) Hughes of Pulaski, TN and Pat (Cynthia) Hughes of Murfreesboro, TN; and many nieces and nephews. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Tech University as well as his Master of Science from University of Tennessee. Jerry was a civil engineer and retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Florence and Hutchenson, Consulting Engineers. Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening and genealogy. He spent much of his time playing bridge and going to lunch with friends. In previous years, Jerry spent a great deal of his time in marathon running. But, his family will always remember him best for his grilling and his creation of soups and stews for his loved ones. Visitation will be held from four until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 17th of October 2014 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at eleven thirty in the morning on Saturday, the 18th of October in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Roy Stauffer will officiate. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association or to Woodmont Christian Church.
