Norma Jeannine Mulkey Hurley entered the presence of her Lord on October 5, 2024, at the age of 93. There, she joined her husband, Joseph Boyd Hurley, III, her parents, Millis F. Mulkey and Jewell Hegwood Mulkey, and her brother, M. Fred Mulkey, Jr.
A native of Chattanooga, TN, Jeannine graduated from Girls Preparatory School and from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She loved people. Jeannine received God’s gifts of friendship and humor with which she blessed countless lives. This gave her great joy. She loved the study of God’s Word, and she loved sharing it with others. Moving often in her life, she participated in a variety of church memberships, beginning with the cradle roll of Brainard Baptist Church, where she professed Christ as her Savior and would later return to teach Sunday School. In her last years she worshiped and served at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. Jeannine also loved her country. She taught her children and grandchildren to value their heritage, and she prayed constantly for gratitude in the hearts of our nation’s people.
Jeannine will be missed her children: Cynthia Louisa West and husband Walton, Joe Boyd Hurley IV and wife Diana, Frederick Hayward Hurley, Karen Jeannine Pearcy and husband Bob. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Joseph Boyd Hurley V (Kaylen), John Walton West Jr (Stephanie), Ashley Grace Buitenwerf (Robert), Samuel Robert Pearcy (Lauren), Casey Lee Taft (Jonathan), Peter Bradford Hurley (Megane), Rebecca Anne Aaron (Hayden), Patricia Genevieve Hurley, Hannah Jeannine Rogers (John Hardy), Frederick Stone Hurley and Lexie Jewell Hurley; as well as fourteen great grandchildren: Joseph Boyd Hurley VI, Hollis Hurley, Corrine Hurley, Madison Pearcy, Miles Pearcy, Finn Buitenwerf, Kasper Buitenwerf, Kathryn Taft, Bradford Taft, Joseph Philip Aaron, Ruth Aaron, Sarah Aaron, Eva Rogers, and Josie Rogers. Additionally, she will be missed by Marty Mulkey, her brother’s widow, and her nieces, Meg Gallagher (Matt), Jeannine Callahan (Michael), Kelley Beasley (Will), and nephews Gene Lambert (Laura) and Kerry Lambert (Tommye).
Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Following will be the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at, Forest Hills Baptist Church followed by her burial at the Chattanooga Memorial Park. For those who wish to honor her memory, please donate to the church or charity of your choice or to Alive Hospice.
