the age of 99 at McKendree Village in Hermitage. He was born June
12, 1914 in Centerville, Tennessee. He was predeceased by his wife
of 62 years, Dorothy “MaMa Dot” Lanz and their beloved daughter
Drusilla. He is survived by one son, Jan R Roberts,
his daughter-in-law Mary Ellen, eight grandchildren Jon Roberts,
Kristin Roberts Shannon,Katie Roberts Wilson,
Anne Roberts Granger, Stephen Tsonos, Phaedra Tsonos,
Dena Tsonos Francescon and Charlie Tsonos and three
great-grandchildren, Tyler, Annelise and Drusilla.
Mr. Roberts was a graduate of Hume Fogg High School in Nashville,
and the US Army Command and Staff College in Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas. He enlisted in the TennesseeNational Guard in 1938
and served in the Horse Cavalry unit founded by former Civil War hero
LTG Nathan Bedford Forrest. He was a World War II Veteran,
fought in the Pacific Theater and awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.
He remained in the US Army Reserve after the war and
retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in. Following the war he worked at
the Methodist Publishing House for 40 years. Funeral services will
be Monday December 22, 2014 at the Woodlawn Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be at 9 AM , service at 10AM and burial immediately
following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to
Donelson Heights Methodist Church in Donelson, Tennessee or the
McKendree Village Foundation in Hermitage. The family wishes to
express its gratitude to the staff at McKendree Village for their care and
attention in his final years.
