James A. Pruett Jr.

James Pruett Jr, 100 years old, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday October 27th, 2024. James was born to the late James and Beulah Pruett in Nashville, Tennessee on March 20th, 1924. He graduated from Antioch High School and was a member of the football team. He married Hilda Brecheen on June 2, 1952, in Nashville at the 12th Avenue Church of Christ. James served in the United States Army from Feb of 1944 to May of 1946 of which he was honorably discharged. During his service he received the EAME Theater Ribbon, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart received due to injuries received on Nov 5, 1944 in France, World War II Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Germany. He retired from AVCO Aerostructures after a full career with them as an accountant.

James was an avid golfer and played regularly into his early 90s. He had 3 holes in one in his golfing career, the first of which happened in his early 70s. James was a hard worker at everything he did and always strived to provide for his family, while simultaneously making sure he didn’t miss important events. He loved watching sports of all kinds, but especially golf, football, and baseball. He always felt the need to be doing something and was push mowing his yard and weed eating it until he was 99. He cared for his wife Hilda up until her death. James became a Christian at the age of 80. We are comforted to know he is at home with Jesus and his wife.

James is survived by his son Brian Pruett; daughter, Trudy Hampton (Charles); grandchildren: Sadie Hampton, Gracie Hampton, and Thomas Hampton (Grace).

Our family wants to thank Brian and Trudy for the loving care they showed for their father, and truly appreciate Brians attentiveness to his fathers needs in his final days. He will be remembered fondly for being the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ask for.

A graveside service for James will be held Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 1 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
