He was an Environmental Engineer by trade with a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University. He was the youngest in his class to graduate, completing his education a week before his 22nd birthday. An Eagle Scout at age 14, he was a builder, motorcycle rider and moto enthusiast, musician, and mentor to many. Generous, strong, and dependable are some words that automatically come to mind when thinking of James. He was a man of great ability and a real-world problem solver.
He is survived by: wife, Lorrena Harvey; sons, James “Jay” Harvey V and Oliver Harvey;
mother, Roberta Harvey; father James “Jim” Harvey; sister, Rachel Strait; brother-in-law Michael Strait; brother, Roland Harvey; sister-in-law, Binlin Harvey, many aunts and uncles, and friends who were like family.
James and Lorrena met 15 years ago in New Orleans and have had a full life of adventure and travel. James was no stranger to hard work and was known for getting any kind of job done with a custom solution, and a motto he stood by: doing the job right the first time, leaving no task unfinished. James traveled the world as a musician, and lived in several cities across the country with his wife and children over the years, most recently putting down roots in Nashville, TN, to become Production Manager for Regenesis Bioremediation, an environmental remediation company whose mission he was passionate about. Wherever he lived, he befriended and influenced people, leaving places and people better than how he found them.
James’ family was his world. He approached fatherhood with a sense of wonder and was so excited to include his sons in his adventures and daily projects. James always found a way to include his boys in home repairs, oil changes or bbq pit creations, as he valued passing along these skills to them. Larger than life, he leaves behind a never-ending collection of memories of times spent with him and stories to share.
The family is asking that in Lieu of Flowers donate in James honor to his son's education Memorial fund For James Harvey's children set up - if anyone would like to donate in his honor here is the link to contribute to the future he would of hope and provided for his boys at:
