James McCaleb Davidson, known as "Mac", passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2023 at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.T. & Gertrude Davidson, and sister in law, Sandy Davidson. Mac is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cathy Knott Davidson (Hendersonville, Tn.), son, Dustin Davidson & wife Heather (Gallatin, Tn.) , beloved grandsons, Jack Thomas Davidson & Reese McCaleb Davidson (Gallatin, Tn.), brother, Edward Thomas Davidson, Jr. (Hermitage, Tn.), brother in law, Gary Knott (McKenzie, Tn.), sister in law, Sherry Hall (Bradford, Tn.), nieces, Kelli Jones, Kasi Darby, Dee Jackson, Dana Littrell & Lori Whaley, numerous great nieces, nephews & cousins.
Mac graduated from Bradford High School in 1965 as Valedictorian of his class, and with honors in Electrical Engineering from UT Knoxville in 1969. He started dating Cathy in high school, and they were married Dec. 24, 1967. They shared a full and beautiful adventurous life together. They visited all 50 states (many several times) to enjoy the wonders of this beautiful country and beyond. They had just completed their 22nd cruise with their long-time best friends, Johnny & Carole Jones. Besides traveling, he loved reading, sitting on the deck admiring his garden, the birds, fish pond, and having an entertaining conversation with friends and neighbors. His career as an engineer included work at ITT, Milan Arsenal, Trane & Nystar-Zinc Plant in Clarksville. In between, he went back to school and became a CPA and worked in that field briefly. Above all, he treasured "his boys" -Dustin, Jack & Reese. He was so proud of each, for their intellect, their goodness, and uniqueness. He & Cathy attended hundreds of sports games to support "his boys" and share in their accomplishments. He was a devout Tennessee Vol fan, incredible planner- from organizing their trips to designing the garden, or building projects he undertook. He was a "Mr. Fix-it", had an incredible sense of direction, often arguing with the GPS, that his way was better. The "engineer" in him caused him to analyze and critique everything to a maddening degree, and he researched and studied constantly to learn new things to guide his choices. He was "one of a kind", and will be deeply missed, but always in our hearts. The family requests donations in his honor be directed to the National Parks Service, or the Alzheimer's Association (in honor of his mother and aunts.)
