Jackie Dale Duncan

Jackie Dale Duncan - aka - Jack “Pops” Duncan age 85 of Nashville, TN, passed away October 7, 2017. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Velva Duncan, daughters Rebecca and Diana, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his son Ron (Jill) Duncan, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Jack was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Clovis, NM, grew up in Olton, TX, moved to San Jose, CA in 1957, moved to Orlando, FL in 1993, and then finally to Nashville in 2003. He was a successful business owner of a flooring company for over 30 years. After retirement, he was involved in church work and always helping others. Upon moving to Nashville, Jack became very involved in the Trevecca Community. He was an active member of Trevecca Community Church. At TNU, Jack was an honorary coach for basketball, softball, and volleyball. Being a huge fan and supporter of sports at the school, he was inducted into the TNU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Jack was also honored each year by the naming of the “Pops Duncan Classic”, an annual women’s basketball tournament, hosted by TNU from 2005 to the present. At church, Jack served as church treasurer, board member, trustee, Sunday School teacher, usher, greeter, and softball coach. He was also involved in prison ministry, mission trips, and district advisory board. Jack was a devoted husband, loving father, fun-loving grandfather, loyal friend to many, and faithful servant. He had the gifts of humor, encouragement and giving. Jack loved people and wanted to be involved their lives. As his Parkinson’s Disease progressed, it became more difficult for him to get around to the things he enjoyed, but he never gave up. The family would like to thank the people at Trevecca Center for Rehab and Healing for their excellent care of Jack in his last years. They would also like to thank his church family and the entire Trevecca community for their love, care, and friendship over the last 14 years. His life was enriched and extended because of their thoughtfulness and attention. His life will be celebrated at Trevecca Community Church, 335 Murfreesboro Rd., Nashville, TN 37210 with visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 from 4-7pm and also on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 from 10-11am. The service will follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trevecca Nazarene University, Department of Athletics, in honor of Jack Duncan.
