“Coach” Herbert C. Williams Sr. passed away on 5/29/18 in Nashville, TN. He was born 8/24/28 in WV to Willie and Beatrice Williams. Herb was a Sr. Fire Fighter in the Air Force, stationed at Sewart AFB from 1948 until he was honorably discharged in 1952. He worked at Baird Ward Printing Company for 35 years and coached basketball at St. Edward School in Nashville for 33 years. Though he coached sports to those who played for him, he coached all of those close to him about life. He was the master of storytelling, whether about sports, work, or life events. Although he spent endless hours coaching and providing for his family he reminded us that “When you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.”. Herb is survived by his children, Claudia (Rick) Archer, Herb Williams Jr., Mike (Kathy) Williams, Teresa (John) Valentine, Terry (Sam) Williams, Andy (Debra) Williams, Kelly (Howard) Staggs, Grace Broyles; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, sister, daughter Mary C. Williams and his beloved wife Mary Catherine Williams. Visitation will be held at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs funeral home in Nashville, TN on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 12-6 pm; mass at St. Edward Catholic Church at 12:00 pm Saturday June 2, 2018 with graveside at 1:30 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
