Glynn Alden Clark was born in an oil field shack in Electra, Texas in 1922 and passed away on December 12, 2021 at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his parents Dora Ella Parker Clark and Ballard Pete Clark, daughter Diane Parker Clark, and sister June Clark King. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Evelyn Denny Parker Clark, daughter Donna June Clark, nieces Jan Grimshaw and Pat Meyers, nephew John Grimshaw, “adopted Vietnamese daughter Kim Ha Campbell, and other relatives.
Glynn spent his early years following the oil boom with his parents. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from his high school in Archer City, Texas. He attended Midwestern Junior College in Wichita Falls and transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where he majored in Petroleum Engineering.
Glynn taught Chemical Warfare in San Marcos Navigation School as his first assignment in the army. He was then sent to the University of Illinois for a course in Electrical Engineering. He was then sent to the Kellex Corporation at Columbia University doing research on the atomic bomb.
When it was believed the bomb could become a reality, he was assigned to the Corps of Engineers as part of the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. While there, he met the love of his life, Evelyn. They were married March 23, 1946.
After the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, he was discharged from the army and returned to the University of Texas. He and Evelyn lived in half a barracks while Glynn continued his studies.
Glynn joined Marathon Oil Company in 1949 and retired in 1982 as Vice President Research. The family lived in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Colorado.
Glynn and Evelyn participated in civic and church activities wherever they lived. He has been an active Deacon in three churches. He served on the Foundation Board of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was a Trustee of Belmont University, and was on the Board for the Ed Lindsey Industries for the Blind. Evelyn and Glynn believe in higher Christian education and have given generously to that cause. Glynn was an active member of Nashville First Baptist Church. He and Evelyn traveled extensively in 38 countries and all 50 of the United States.
Glynn was a quiet, gentle man. He had a quiet demeanor, keen intellect, and dry wit. His faith, family, and work were the most important things in his life.
Services will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Lindsley Hall of Mount Olivet Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Due to the increase of COVID cases the family request for all guests in attendance to please wear a face mask and remember to practice social distancing.
