George Himes

George Wilson “Shine” Himes, age 96 of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully on Thursday July 7th, 2022. He was born on September 24, 1925 in Maury County, TN to the late James D. Himes and Minnie Lee (Cates) Himes. He is preceded in death by wife Clara B. (Ambrose) Himes.

George is survived by sons James D. Himes and Oddis M. Jenkins; grandchildren Brian D. Himes, Daniel W. Himes, Angela K. Lester, and Carole E. Minton; great grandchildren Elijah D. Himes, Emery S. Himes, Alexis Minton, Chloe Minton, Noah Lester; nieces Betty J. Franklin, Juanita Moran; and nephews Paul Riggan and Charles Riggan.

George was a member of Glencliff Methodist Church, VFW Post 1291, American Legion Post 88, John B. Garrett Masonic Lodge, The 32nd Scottish Rite, and AL MENNAH Shriners. George was a proud U.S. Navy WWII Veteran.. Serving in the European and Pacific theatres upon a landing transport courageously transporting U.S. military soldiers to shore during battle. George retired from the Metropolitan Nashville Government as the Director of Public Property after 30 years of faithful service to his beloved community.

Visitation will be held at Mount Olivet Funeral Home on Sunday July 10th from 4PM until 8PM, and Monday July 11th from 10AM-11AM with services held immediately thereafter at 11:00AM.
