Gary Leo Schmidt passed away on September 8, 2018 at the age of 66. Born in Milwaukee, WI on November 28, 1951 and later raised in Crystal Lake, IL. He graduated from Cary Grove High School in 1969 and went on to play minor league baseball under the Minnesota Twins ballclub. Gary spread his roots all over the country from the Midwest to Miami, FL. He would spend his final years in Brentwood, TN. In his lifetime he was known for his determination, compassion and strength. Many witnessed Gary’s drive and passion for success. Gary was a lover of sports and known for his athletic ability and love for coaching. Anyone who knew Gary knew his love and unconditional support for The “U” of Miami Hurricanes. In his free time he enjoyed socializing with his many friends, golfing and traveling to watch the ‘Canes play. You could often find Gary at O’Charley’s with his closest buddies the “Dog Asses”, Starbucks on Franklin, or the Brentwood Country Club. Although he was a hardworking entrepreneur, he was a devout father to his girls who were his entire world.
The Schmidt family extends a heartfelt thank you to all of Gary’s longtime closest friends, you know who you are.
He is survived by his fiancé Linda Alex Jordan, his two daughters, Courtney (23) and Lindsey (18), and Brent Jordan (46), who he considered a son, the mother of his children, Shelley, his sister, Wendy Nienhaus, brother-in-law, Jeff, and their daughter, Sydney.
