Jane leaves a strong legacy of generous love and service to her friends, community, and especially her family. After graduating from George Peabody College with a teaching degree in Home Economics, she married Martin in 1952 and taught basic skills to children with special needs in Maury County as she started her family, and later taught Home Economics at St. Bernard Academy. Jane's legendary skills in the kitchen and on the sewing machine were central to home life, and dinners nearly always included neighbors, friends, and extended family who gathered around the large table where there was always room for one more.
Jane's strong faith shared with Martin touched every facet of her life. Married at St. Mary's, she and Martin were members of St. Katherine's, St. Edwards, Christ the King, and the Cathedral, as well as founding members of the Community of Christian Unity Catholic parishes. Jane sacrificed to send all six of her children to Catholic schools, and headed Home and School Associations at St. Bernard's, Christ the King and Father Ryan.
A life of love given through service to others sustained Jane through a difficult, long illness. She always managed to show gratitude to her caregivers. Jane's family notes with special appreciation the loving care given Jane by Dr. Tracy Doering and DeDe Hockett.
