Ernest (Ernie) Robert Vantosky, age 97 of Franklin, TN & formerly of Mt. Lebanon (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania passed away surrounded by those he loved on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Nashville, TN. Ernie was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania on January 9, 1921 to the late Felix Z & Anna M (Janos) Vantosky. In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean M (Paullet) Vantosky, his son, James Neal Vantosky and his two brothers, Robert Vant and Edward Vantosky.
Ernie proudly served his country during World War II in the US Navy as a Chief Aviation Machinist. He later worked for Capital Airlines but spent most of his career working for US Steel, Aircraft Division as an Aeronautics Maintenance Supervisor. Ernie also authored the first maintenance manual for the Gulf Stream II Jet and went on to teach technical seminars in the US and throughout Europe.
Ernie is survived by daughter, Mary (Jay) Brown of Franklin, TN and Son, David (F.F. “Frangie”) of Franklin, TN. Grandchildren, Thomas (Alexis) Brown, Jaclynn Brown, Kyle (Kelsey) Vantosky, Alexa (Andrew) Rowek and great-grandchildren, Sidney Brown, Westley Brown and Tessa Rowek.
The greatest joy in Ernie’s life was being able to provide for his family as a loving husband to his beloved wife, “J. P.” and as a caring father to his children. He made everyone feel respected for who they were and for the job they did. His engaging smile and hearty laughter were enticing and contagious. Ernie enjoyed each day to the fullest.
Ernie’s devout faith as a Catholic prepared him well for his final journey home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 8, 2018 from the Chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home with Interment to follow in Historic Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The Family will welcome guests from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated as are donations to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville TN 37203
