mandolinist, Edwin played in a bluegrass band as a young man. He attended Central High
School until October 1944, when he joined the war efforts as a seaman in the Navy aboard the
USS Columbia CL-56. He served as Seaman 1st Class, 4th division until June 1946.
Upon his return, Edwin married Virgina Miller on January 21,1948. They built their life together
with their four children in The Village of Old Hickory, Tennessee. A skilled millwright, Edwin was
a loyal employee for the Ford Glass and Dupont Plants for decades, and he was a member of
the United Auto Union Workers since 1965. He loved the Lord and was an avid participant in his
community where he was a member of the Old Hickory Church of Christ; he volunteered with
the church of Christ Disaster Relief foundation, served as a board member for the Old Hickory
Help Center, and delivered Meals on Wheels among several other volunteer positions. He was
an intelligent and humble man who loved to learn. He will be deeply missed and admired forever
by all who had the privilege to know him.Edwin was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, sister Margaret, brother JD, and parents William and Carmilla. He is survived by his daughters Sherry (Allen) Craig, Lori Kemper, Melody (Tim) Ward, and Tammy (Scotty) Lee. He also thought of Allen Craig as his own son. Edwin was a grandfather known as “Popee” to 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Saturday April 27, 2024 from 10:00-12:30 PM with a funeral service to follow at 12:30 PM at Old Hickory Church of Christ.
