Mrs.Steele is preceded in death by her parents Buford and Clara Holman, two brothers George and Bailey Holman, and sister Virginia Donaldson.
Mrs. Steele is survived by her husband of 63 years; Buford Jackson Steele, daughter; Brenda Steele (Mark) Pugh, brother; James (Joyce) Holman, three sisters; Marge Hoffman, Alice (Clarence) Gates, Florence (Clarence) Southall, two grandchildren; Rachel (Shane) Williams and Nathan (Anna) Pugh, and two great-granddaughters; Hannah and Abigail Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Steele graduated from Clay County High School and moved to Nashville to begin school and work. She graduated from Andrew Jackson College and worked at First Federal Savings and Loan Company. When Jack returned home from Korea they were married and moved to Donelson, TN; where she resided until her death. She quickly went to work turning the house into a home. She was noted for being an excellent seamstress and cook. She loved to quilt, crochet, knit, and made many of her own clothes. Her home was always filled with the aroma of home cooked meals from their garden which she was instrumental in planting, harvesting, canning and freezing. She was the consummate homemaker who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She fully supported Jack in all his endeavors and provided a wonderful example for Brenda. Mrs. Steele had an undying love for her grandchildren and taught them many wonderful lessons in her home. Mrs. Steele was also an active member of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ for over 50 years and could always be counted on to be in attendance. Dorothy will be well missed and has left memories that will last with them forever.
A private Celebration of Life will be on the evening of Wednesday May 13,2020 from three o'clock until five o'clock.
Following the visitation will be a Graveside service on Thursday May 14,2020 at one o'clock in the afternoon at Mount Olivet Memorial Garden.
