Bettie J. Merrit, age 87, of Nashville died, December 7, 2017.Jean was a native of Davidson County and the daughter of Claribel Goodwin Merritt and George Lofton Merritt. She earned a Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University before becoming an editor at the Baptist Sunday School board. Jean has traveled the world extensively visiting to more than 180 countries. She was a member of First Baptist Church for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Gladys M. Thoni, Marie M. Foresyth and twin brother John B. Merritt. She is survived by sister Catherine M. Fields, brother in law Derris Foresyth, niece Judy F. Elmore, nephews, Joe Rader and John Merritt III, great nieces Monica Elmore and Cortney Elmore.
Visitation Tuesday December 12th from four o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home. Second visitation Wednesday December 13th from eleven o’clock in the morning until one o’clock in the afternoon. Funeral will begin at one o’clock in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Burial following Woodlawn Memorial Park.
