Beth Wood lived a wonderful life growing up in a Godly home, marrying her college sweetheart, David and bringing two young men into the world, Wesley Price and David Tyler. Also entering the Wood family was Susannah Speed, Wes’ wife and her grandchildren Ann Hagan and Mary Carson. Wes and his family live in Hendersonville while Tyler recently moved back to Nashville. Beth was dedicated to young people teaching elementary school in Poplarville, Mississippi, while David attended graduate school, and White Bluff, Tennessee. She influenced young children in her service at First Presbyterian in Nashville and more recently, First Presbyterian in Lynnville Tennessee co-teaching Sunday school and volunteering as a youth leader in Nashville. Her passion was service to young people. While her passion was young people, her love was art. She began painting late but became very proficient completely furnishing her home in Nashville and lake house at Center Hill. Through art she met and became friends with many ladies at the Centennial Club and others from around the country on art trips. Vacations were set up with art projects in mind. David took the pictures and Beth did the hard and loving work of painting many of them. The special trips for her included annual visit in winter to Sanibel, summers and fall in the mountains and the northeast especially Montana (Glacier National Park), Maine (Bar Harbor and all down the east coast of Maine), Vermont (Middlebury) and Massachusetts (Rockport). Carmel was on the list any time. Monhegan Island was a late find. Beth graduated from Hillsboro High School (1969) and the University of Mississippi (1973). She loved her Delta Gamma sisters at Ole Miss and continued relationships with them well beyond college. She was an active member of the Ole Miss Women’s Council for Philanthropy, Rose Society. She led fund raising activities in Williamson County for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in the early 80’s. She is survived by her husband, children, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Additionally, Beth is survived by her mother, Jayne Hagan, sister, Cheryl Harlin and two brothers, Thom (Rebecca) and Richard Hagan all living in Nashville. There are many nephews and nieces including Bill Harlin (Kelly and sons Tucker and Luke), Tom Harlin (Laura and daughter Emily), Christin Hagan (Josh Waters and daughter Callie), and Neil and Dickson, sons of Richard Hagan. Additional family members include Gene and Judy Wood and family (Jackson, Mississippi), Larry and Helen Wood and family (Moss Point, Mississippi), Mary Helen and Bill Maynor and family (Birmingham) and George (deceased) and Suzanne (deceased) Wood and family (Oxford). The worship service celebrating Beth’s life with us and life with her Heavenly Father will be held at the First Presbyterian Church (“FPC”) Cheek House Chapel, noon on January 4, 2017.
