Becky will always be remembered as a sweet and caring lady and friend.  Our time together was always pleasant and we enjoyed our class of GA's (Girls in Action for missions).  Heart hugs for all the precious Startup children--Susan I knew best.  My family also loved Mrs. Smith---she cared for them in nursery.  Blessed family that blessed our lives.  Heavenly blessed. Gran’s Testimony:  
I was saved when I was 13 years old during a revival.  I had felt I was lost for some time, but I had not talked to anyone.  Also the church I attended believed you had to be baptized at the time you made your decision, which was another problem because I was afraid of water (afraid to be baptized).  One of the elders noticed how nervous I was and came over and asked me if I wanted to be saved.  I said “Yes”.  I knew I was lost and wanted to be saved.  I asked Jesus to come into my heart and God gave me peace and strength to walk down the aisle.  I became very active in church. 

When I feel in love with my husband to be, the only problem we had was he was a Baptist and I was Church of Christ.  This was a real problem to our families, especially mine.  While we dated, we each went to our own church on Sunday morning and with each other on Sunday night.  After we married, we both went to our own church on Sunday morning.  There was never any question as to whether we would go to church, only where?  

After my first child was born, I realized this arrangement was not going to work so I began going to church with my husband, to the Baptist church.  I soon came to feel that I could worship there and I joined the Baptist church on Easter Sunday 1958 after my second child was born.  I had always loved church.  I soon became very active in Sunday School, Baptist Women, Choir, Library, and Vacation Bible School—anywhere I could help.  

Through the years God has let me do many things for Him.  One of my greatest joys is the job I have now, working with the Homebound.  Another one of the greatest blessings I learned from the Lord has been to tithe.  My family had never tithed and I didn’t understand it at all.  I didn’t see how it was possible for us to do it.  My husband had always tithed and continued to during our marriage.  I can honestly say that it is the best thing you can do.  We have been blessed beyond measure.  God has always provided.


Becky's Favorite Bible Verse:

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.           -Philippians 4:11-13 

I knew this day would come, when my life would change forever.  I would lose the one that knew me the best and loved me anyway.  Though I miss you every day, I will go on – just as you have taught me.  The way you have cared for others is inspirational.  Though I know you were just striving to be more like Jesus, I am thankful I had such an example that by being more like you – I will become more like Him!  That is just one of the many gifts you have given each of your children and many others.  Every time my heart aches or a tear runs down my cheek, I am immediately aware and eternally grateful for the accompanying pain.  I know that the pain is only present because of the love.   They go hand in hand, and I would not trade one for the other.   I am grateful to have had a mother that not just loved me, but that was unconditionally there for me for all of my life.  Thank you for being my Mom:  strong, gentle, humble, dependable, gracious, hard-working, content, selfless, and loving.  You embodied the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and were a perfect example of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31.  As a family, we will strive to make you proud and promise to take care of each other!  Thank you for being my best friend!  Looking forward to holding your hand again one day!  I love you! My sister is gone, but I feel like she is here.  She was always so good to me.  We did a lot of things together.  We have gone to many ballgames, raised our children and spent time at each other's house.  I loved getting to take trips with my sister.  We did this with our husbands, with our other sister, and went on tours with friends.  I would not have been able to go on so many trips, if she had not been so good to me.  I miss her so much.  I love you and will see you again one day!

Gran was full of GRACE! I never met a person so full of grace in my life. Especially to have to put up with her 2 oldest boys, Buddy & Don, the Lord knew this was a characteristic that was a must when He wove her DNA together. Her whole demeanor was grace-filled, which made you love her even more. There was definitely truth that she spoke into situations, but GRACE always accompanied that truth. 

Gran was also a REALLY GOOD COOK! There wasn’t a time that we went to Gran’s house when there wasn’t a meal being prepared. You opened the door to the house and the sweet aroma of southern cooking hit you right between the eyes. Some of the staples at Gran's house were green beans, cranberry relish, fried apples, rolls, lima beans, M & M’s & Skittles, jelly beans, pecan pie, coconut cake, chocolate chip cookies, pineapple cake, and many more. 

Gran was also a great ATHLETE & ALTO! If there were a couple of extracurricular activities that Gran loved to do besides cooking, it was playing basketball and singing. Gran beat the brakes off me & my brothers playing H-O-R-S-E one day, which gave us a whole new respect for our grandmother. Gran also loved to sing in the choir at church, and on many occasions when our family was together we would gather around the piano while my dad played and the whole family would sing hymns, each in their own part. If God gave her a voice like she had on earth, I can’t even imagine what her voice sounds like now as she is singing with the masses in heaven! 

Most importantly, Gran was a NEW CREATION in Christ! She lived her life differently and people noticed it. Her relationship with Jesus was of utmost importance to her, and it was evident. Gran was a prayer warrior and I truly believe that people’s lives & people’s circumstances were changed because my grandmother prayed for them consistently & persistently.

I love my Gran and miss her greatly! I can't wait to see her again one day and sing to Jesus with her! 


Gran has been one of my favorite people my entire life.  She loved me before I was born and was one of my greatest encouragers.  She was a beautiful example of grace, humility, a Christian woman, and a prayer warrior.  My children and wife loved Gran as much as I did and could not wait to see her any chance we could.   I am grateful for my time with her and that I got to hold her hand the last time we saw each other.  Her influence will be passed down for generations.

I had quite a few special moments with Gran that will always make me smile. Watching her close her eyes and seamlessly find the harmony to any song, showing me her wedding dress, looking at yearbooks... my last special evening with her was spent listening to the country music station on tv while waiting for Susan, Nick, and my kids to get back from the circus. Hearing granddaddy say “There’s my baby! She’s a hauss!” while pointing out a yearbook picture of Gran shooting a basket will always be my measure of how much they loved each other!

What a blessing to have known Becky since Elementary School Days.  It was always fun to  go to Becky's house. Becky was an outstanding basket ball star in our High School. It never changed her; she always had a sweet and humble spirit.  Becky was so faithful to her family, friends, and  her Lord Jesus Christ.  She will be missed by  all. Becky, we will see you again in our heavenly home. Prayers and love to your precious family.

What a great Godly lady, one who was always giving of herself to help others.  She was like a second mom while in high school and her home was always open.  My prayers and thoughts are with the family.   May your whole family know that you are loved during this time.
