William Albert “Bill” Floyd, age 76, of Nashville, passed away Tuesday at his residence surrounded by his family. Born June 8, 1935 in Belmont, Indiana, he was the son of Virgil Roscoe and Rebecca (Woods) Floyd. He was retired from Cummins Engine after 43 years where he worked as an iron worker, rigger and crane operator. He also had worked as an excavator building lanes and ponds throughout the Brown County area. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, mow, cut wood, garden, going to auctions and antique shops as well as squirrel hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he served at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He was a member of the Diesel Workers Union.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hughes Floyd, of Nashville; one daughter, Wilma Jean Floyd, of Morgantown; one son, William Anthony Floyd, of Indianapolis; three step-children, Kelly Dawn (Ray) Mills, of Brownsville, Pennsylvania, James Glen (Elizabeth) Hays, of King George, Virginia and Erin Wayne (Jane) Hays, of Seymour, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Amberly, Misty, Justin, Elaina, Myka, Emerald, Travis, Christopher, Madeline and Millicent; three great-grandchildren; three sisters all of Columbus, Indiana, Ruby (Willard) Teckenbrock, Phyllis Westerfield, and Betty Bannwartt and one brother, Virgil Keith Floyd, of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Floyd.
The funeral service will be held at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home in Nashville on Friday at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Joseph Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday (09/01) at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the American Cancer Society.
