The only child of Roy E. Otten and Mary Frances Barnes, Lynda was born July 16,1934 in Versailles, Missouri. Lynda had fond memories of her childhood, many of which included working at the Versailles Leader-Statesman, the newspaper owned by her father, and spending time with her friends on the Lake of the Ozarks. After getting a degree in fine arts at the Kansas City Art Institute, Lynda worked as a fabric designer at Smithson Incorporated.
In 1955 Lynda married Sherm Heimburger, settled in Versailles and their family grew to 5 with the births of Bart, David and Francie. In the early 1960’s the Heimburgers relocated to Nashville, Indiana where Lynda honed her skills as an artist and musician. She volunteered for the Indiana Heritage Arts, won numerous awards and was the organist at the Nashville United Methodist Church for nearly 25 years. Lynda was also a founding member of the Brown County community theater and spent countless hours bringing Broadway to the Hills O’ Brown.
After thirty-two years of marriage, Lynda and Sherm’s lives took separate paths. Lynda travelled extensively and, like many Brown County artists, she was intrigued by the Southwest, the subject of many of her paintings. In later years, she split her time between Nashville and Holmes Beach, Florida where she continued to paint and walked thousands of miles on the beaches of Anna Maria Island.
Lynda was preceded by her parents and beloved uncle Paul. She will be dearly missed by her three children Bart, David and Francie, 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as her extended family and friends.
Lynda will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville, Indiana. Arrangements are being handled by Bond-Mitchell Funeral home. At Lynda’s request no formal services are planned but please feel free to raise a glass of cold chocolate milk in her honor. The family would welcome the upload of your memories and photos on the Bond-Mitchell funeral home website.
Lynda always had a soft spot for the animals in her life so please direct memorial donations to the Brown County Humane Society, https://www.bchumane.org/ , or an arts organization of your choice.
