Gene was a member of the Church of Christ at Pikes Peak. He worked many years for Motorists Mutual Insurance Company, but for the last 38 years liked to be called “The Candyman” for his candy and food supply business. He loved talking to people and left a warm impression on all he met and knew. He was “Grandpapa” to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed working his business, helping at the church, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Alyce Joyce Secrest Powell; his son, Greg Powell and his wife Marsha; his daughter, Dawn Miller and her husband Terry; a brother, J.K. Powell; two sisters, Pauline Loy and Cindy Wade; five grandchildren, Monica (Mike) Bozeman, Adam (Alicia) Miller, Dr. Andy (Kim) Powell, Lindsay (Austin) Ricks, and Hayley Powell; eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild with one on the way shortly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Powell.
Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Bond Mitchell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service from Noon to 2:00 p.m.
