Delbert E. Nagel, 85, of Ridgeville Township, passed away at the Lutheran Home Campus of Napoleon on Thursday, June 18, 2015. He was born May 23, 1930, in Ridgeville Township of Henry County to Edwin R. and Lena (Watchman) Nagel.
Delbert lived his entire life on the family farm, except for his military service and the past 3 ½ years in assisted living. Delbert attended country school and then Ridgeville Local Schools. He married Evelyn D. Otte on June 23, 1963 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Napoleon Township. They shared over 51 years together. Delbert recently celebrated his 85th birthday with a family dinner, where he announced to all that he would be a grandfather later this year.
Delbert was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Township, where he served on various committees and as a trustee. He was always a farmer at heart, retiring in 1993, but remained keenly interested in what was happening in the farming community.
Delbert served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 as a medical corpsman at several bases throughout the United States. He was a school bus driver for Ridgeville Local Schools for 9 years, retiring in 1966 due to disability. He also worked for Behrmann Burial Service of Ridgeville part time. Delbert served as co-chair of the 1991 Ridgeville Community Days. He was a member of the Northwest Ohio Two-Cylinder Club, and enjoyed attending tractor shows throughout the area.
Delbert is survived by his son Edwin J (Hallie) Nagel of Perrysburg Township and daughter Sara E (Craig) Rosenbeck of Irving, Texas and a sister, Marie Busch of Napoleon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lena, and his wife, Evelyn on December 11, 2014. He was also preceded in death by a brother- in- law, James Busch, and sister- in- law, Mildred Wagner.
Visitation for Delbert will be held Monday June 22, 2015, at Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, 830 N. Scott St., Napoleon from 3 pm until 8 pm. Visitation will continue at 10 am on Tuesday, June 23 at St John Lutheran Church (Rts. 6 & 66) Ridgeville Twp., where funeral services will follow at 11 am. Pastor Jeffrey Corder will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded to Delbert by the Ridgeville American Legion Post 454. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. John Lutheran Bell Tower Fund, Ridgeville Township Volunteer Fire Department, or the Alpine Village Activity Fund.
