Thomas Edward Taylor, a resident of Minneapolis for almost forty years, passed away on July 6, 2022 at his home in Naples, Florida. A true Southerner, Tom was born in Lancaster, South Carolina on August 27, 1952, spent several years in Myrtle Beach and attended college at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He is survived by Tom Garrett, Professor Emeritus of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, who was his spouse and partner for 42 years.
Tom worked for Quest Communications for thirty years, but all his life he loved food and travel. He learned to cook early on, watching his mother and grandma prepare meals. Together with Tom Garrett, he traveled all over the world and when he returned home, he cooked the foods he discovered on his travels. Tom was an avid reader, especially of Southern and South American writers, and loved Latin music and Asian artifacts.
Besides his husband, Tom is survived by his sister-in-law Susanna Garrett (James Garner), nephew Patrick (Jean) Blythe, nephew Robert (Katy) Blythe, niece Julie Outen (Michael Powers), niece Melinda (Sonny) Hardin, nephew Jody (Renee) Outen and niece Marianne Taylor.
He was preceded in death by mother Kathleen Baker Taylor, his father Howard Taylor, his sister Judy Outen and his brother Richard Taylor.
All who met Tom knew the charm of his Southern drawl and dry wit - his heart of gold, fine literary mind and his many down home wisdoms.
