Bob was born on Sunday, October 25, 1931 at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA to the late Teresa M. (McPhee) and Anthony J. Dee. He was preceded in death by Nancy (Crowe) Dee, his wonderful wife of 53 years and soul mate Irene (Raposa) Dee who passed away in 2021 after 12 years of marriage. He leaves sons Kevin and his wife Patty and granddaughter Kailey of Alaska and son Kenneth of Hull, MA and his grandchildren, Serena, Ronan and Declan and his sister Dorothy Cloherty of West Roxbury, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by his brother John and sister Mary Mara. Bob grew up in Jamaica Plain (Boston) he attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar and High School and Hyde Park High School after which Bob joined the Navy from 1949 to 1953, serving on a number of ships and traveling throughout the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas. Bob applied and was accepted as an employee of the New England Telephone & Telegraph CO. where he stayed for the next 34 years, while at the same time attending Northeastern University at night. Bob had many wonderful years of telephone service including serving as a cable man, radio and television technician, first level supervisor and Data Technical Support Manager, training many software engineers across the country. There were many wonderful experiences providing television transmission facilities for all of the TV networks for political events such as the Kennedy nomination and election in the 1960’s and at both the national and local level. He was involved in providing local TV transmission of the Boston Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, New England Patriots, and college sporting events.
After retirement, he worked for 5 years at the Engineering Field Service Manager for Perception Technology providing voice response systems throughout the United States. Bob and Nancy retired in 1991 and became snowbirds in Naples, Florida at the Crystal Lake RV Resort. In 2009, Bob & Irene were married and moved to Naples full time in 2016. Bob was a volunteer for many functions as well as serving on many boards. He was also involved in assisting the POA office and many residents in solving computer problems. He was always involved in cooking for the many dinners and breakfasts over the years.
Bob loved sports, especially fishing in salt water and Crystal Lake. He loved to play golf and watch pro sports. He loved to cook as well as going out to eat and attending dinners and dancing in the clubhouse, Bob was known as a great story and joke teller, especially Irish stories. He could have a joke for any occasion. Bob had a quick wit for everything. Bob had many friends and was proud of being their friend. He always had a positive outlook and a smile on his face and loved having a good time. He will be missed. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. A Memorial Service will be held in the future. Donations to Bob’s Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
