Richard A. Murphy

He married Lorraine Menton on August 21, 1987 and they enjoyed doting on each other and rooting for the Red Sox for 29 loving years until her passing in 2016. Dick was a double eagle having gone to DCI and Boston College. He taught at Dedham and Walpole High Schools prior to working in secondary education as a Director of Career Training at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA, where he advised countless students. After retiring to Florida, he was a faithful member of St. Leo's Parish in Bonita Springs and enjoyed attending mass until he was no longer able to do so. Richard was an avid reader- who committed Shakespeare passages to memory-as well as an attentive listener. He loved sharing his passion for reading and his knowledge of books with young readers at Pelican Marsh Elementary School and with adults at the Jewish Senior Center in Naples. His kind heart and joyful laugh will be missed!

Richard has 7 step children: Kathleen Weidenfeller (John); Suzanne Horton; William Menton (Susan); Michael Menton (Meredith); James Menton (Jeanne); Julie Hedges (Roger); and John Menton (predeceased). He also has 19 grandchildren and too many great grandchildren to count!

Richard is survived by his brother Paul and Paul's partner Andrea Dennison. His two sisters, Sister Suzanne Murphy, SND and Louise Maguire are predeceased. He also has 2 nephews: Gregory Maguire and Douglas Maguire.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Leo's Church, Bonita Springs.
