Kenny was born to the late Charles Zimmerli and Leamay Zimmerli on July 18, 1951 in Tuxedo, NY. He graduated from Mahwah High School in 1969 and went on to work for PSEG in Hackensack, NJ. He then married the love of his life, Lisa Hokanson in 1973 and resided with their son, Paul, in Sugar Loaf, NY. He later left PSEG to work for his father's business, Ridgewood Vehicle in Ridgewood, NJ. In 1984, he opened an auto body shop with his brother, Charlie in Warwick, NY. In 1985, they adopted their daughter, Elizabeth (or "Lizzy" as Kenny would call her), 4 years after their son sadly passed away. In 2004, Kenny and Lisa built their dream home in Warwick, NY, where they resided until retiring to Naples, FL in 2011.
Kenny was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. During his time in Warwick, NY, he was a member of Warwick Valley Country Club; he was President of Orange County Bass Masters; and belonged to Bellvale Farms Hunting Club. Bass fishing was his greatest passion in life and he always looked forward to the times he got to spend on his fishing boat. After moving to Naples, FL, he worked part-time at La Playa Golf Club, where he enjoyed telling stories and jokes to his coworkers, who became like family to him. He was the life of the party wherever he went and always provided entertainment with his quick wit and great sense of humor. People always gravitated toward him because he could easily make you smile and brighten up your day. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. It was impossible not to love him. Everyone who knew him will miss him immensely.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Lisa; mother, Leamay; daughter, Elizabeth; brother, Charlie and his wife Marilyn; sister, Sue and her husband Bill; and his beloved cats, Pipa Willow and Cosmo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenny was preceded by his brother, Paul; son, Paul; and father, Charles.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Hemophilia Foundation.
A ceremony to celebrate Kenny’s life will be held on Sunday, January 12 from 6-8 p.m. at La Playa Golf Club in Naples, FL.
