John Harrison Arthur M.D.

John was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on July 26, 1941, to the late Janet (Innes) and George Whitehouse Arthur. His brother, Dr. George W. Arthur predeceased him.

John attended Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont, where he was an honor student and developed his lifelong love of skiing. He graduated from Tufts University and went on to attend the University of Vermont College of Medicine. During his internship in Medicine at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York he met his wife of 54 years, Helga. As a medical officer in the United States Navy, he served at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina and on the flag ship, USS Little Rock with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. It is there, in Italy that John and Helga developed their love of travel, returning to Italy many times, even on their 50th anniversary.

In 1970 John and Helga returned to Massachusetts and John completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Cardiology at Boston University, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Texas Heart Institute.

He went on to a successful practice in Cardiology in Hyannis, Massachusetts and was instrumental and worked tirelessly in helping to develop the highest standards for the Cardiac Care Unit at Cape Cod Hospital.

John was a well-respected physician and will be remembered for his knowledgeable and compassionate approach toward his patients.

Along with his passion for skiing with his family and travelling, he was most joyful when boating on the waters of Nantucket Sound with many dear friends and family.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years Helga Arthur, daughters Christina Arthur Kinch and her finance Jeff Ellis (Naples, Florida), Lisa Donlan Arthur and her wife Michele Farrelly (Denver, Colorado) and his beloved granddaughters Carli and Chloe Kinch, and four nephews and a niece.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will take place later in Naples and on Cape Cod.
