Born to Elizabeth and Wright MacMillan, she is survived by her three children, James Jr., Elizabeth Henderson, and John, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Elsie's husband of 69 years, James R. Connell, passed away in 2013.
Elsie received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Connecticut College, and, after her children were grown, pursued a Masters of Library Science at Columbia University, graduating with honors. She worked for many years as a librarian at Briarcliff College.
After retiring, she volunteered at local public libraries in Briarcliff Manor, NY, Edgartown, MA, and Naples, FL. An accomplished artist, Elsie created many paintings, primarily of landscapes local to her residences. She was active in local organizations, entertained frequently, and enjoyed spending time with family.
A visitation for Elsie will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, Florida 34108 followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm and interment immediately following. A reception will be held at the same location from 2:00-4:00 PM.
