Born in Moultrie, GA on November 27, 1922, she was a graduate of Valdosta State Women's College and received her Masters degree from North Carolina State University. During WW II she worked at Camp Blanding in Stark, FL.
She married J. Thad Moss in 1947, and they lived in Atlanta, GA and Miami, FL before moving to Naples in 1951.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thad in 1988, her sister Christine Clark, and brother Ernest Hiers.
Doris is survived by 4 children: Margaret (Martin) Bellamy, Susie (Randy) Hursey, Joe (Anna) Moss, and Jenny (Andy) Renfroe, 5 grandchildren: Jill (Jim) Hicks, Joseph (Katie) Moss, Alexandra (Michael) Flowe, Andrew Renfroe, and Alec Renfroe, and 2 great-grandchildren: Sophie Hicks and Ryan Flowe. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Moss and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at Trinity by the Cove Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moorings Park Foundation Scholarship Fund or Avow Hospice.
