With heavy hearts we share the news that Shannon Lee Matticks left our world August 4th, 2024. “Shanny” was born in Nanaimo to Glenn & Gloria Matticks, she was a shining star in the eyes of her parents and a proud sister to her big brother Terry. The family lived a life of adventure on the water, in the forest, or simply tending their garden. They were close-knit and are all together once again.
Shannon was incredibly brave. She faced the impossible loss of her beloved dad in a logging accident when she was only twelve years old, the summer of 1979. Her mother Gloria passed suddenly in her arms on Mother’s Day (1999). The following year her brother Terry died in a tragic accident (2000). She endured her own battle with cancer stoically over the last four years but was looking forward to returning to her job at BC Ferries. Now, we hold them all in our hearts forever.
Shannon was most at home on the ocean, gathering with family, tending her plants, or traveling to warm climates to soak in the sun. She loved to cook, journal, and could cut & stack a mean cord of firewood too! Passions she inherited from her mom, who was a huge and loving influence in Shannon’s life. While Shannon was blessed with great physical beauty, she remained humble. Her intelligence shone brightly in her studies and subsequent careers, continuing to increase her skills and experience throughout life. These are the characteristics we celebrate with sincere gratitude.
Shannon is survived by her Uncle Larry & Aunty Dianne Kristiansen, Uncle Paul & Aunty Dianne Kristiansen, partner Bill Ball, adored cousins Kai (Heather; and their sons Kale & Alec) & Clayton (Megan) and niece Keisa Matticks. She is also remembered by her Hanson cousins: Shelly, Glenda, and Gaylene and their families. Many lifelong friends will hold Shannon close in their hearts. She was so happy to have enjoyed many hugs and reconnections at her recent 40th NDSS Class Reunion.
Life is now a full circle for Shannon, and we will truly miss her smile, her courage, and her love. A future celebration to be announced.
