Carol was the eldest child born to Eric and Martha Causton in Calgary, AB on March 18, 1938. She spent her childhood in Calgary and Red Deer, skiing at Banff and swimming at Sylvan Lake.
When Carol was 16 she met the love of her life, Bob (Robert) Kerr, while working together at her father’s camera shop in Red Deer. A few years later Carol and Bob moved to the Lower Mainland with her family, and worked at the Caustons' Granville Street camera store in downtown Vancouver.
Carol and Bob married on October 24, 1959, and relocated to Port Alberni in 1962 to help run the family’s new business, Rainbow Lanes. In October 1967 they moved a final time to Qualicum Beach to raise their three daughters, but continued to work together for nearly 30 years at the bowling alley. Carol capably ran many facets of the business, was a certified bowling coach and loved to bowl, too. After Carol and Bob retired from Rainbow Lanes in 1996, they bowled together at Sunset Lanes in Parksville for several years.
Carol enjoyed camping with Bob and their girls. Their canvas Coleman tent was replaced by tent trailers, trailers and, finally, a fifth wheel. In later years Carol and Bob switched from “glamping” to flying and cruising to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico.
Carol was passionate about collecting recipes, cooking, gardening, craft making, and knitting sweaters for her girls and granddaughters. She read countless Harlequin Romances and enjoyed watching heart warming TV shows. During the Christmas season Carol loved baking, decorating and making gifts for her family.
She was a patient and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Carol is survived by Bob, her devoted husband of 60 years, brothers Ken (Doreen) and Ralph (Cheryl), children Karen, Lori (Terry) and Debra (Herman), grandchildren Amanda, Meaghan, Mariah and Julia, as well as her niece and nephews.
Our family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care that Carol received at Arrowsmith Lodge during the last one and a half years of her life.
Carol showed us how to give it all you got for your family. We are thankful for this gift, and will love and miss her always.
