Funeral for Mary Elizabeth Corbett, 65, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. A visitation & reception will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
Ms. Corbett was born October 29, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Keith and Bucilla Corbett. She passed away October 21, 2019, in Sugar Land.
Mary was a Mensa Member with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and a Master’s Degree in English from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was working on gaining another Bachelor’s Degree. Education was extremely important to her. She worked in several positions in education throughout her life including being involved in the Parent Teacher’s Association, bookkeeping, a computer teacher, and an English teacher. She also wrote poems and science fiction, some of them published. Her family would describe her as a hippie. She married her husband in a log cabin with flowers in her hair.
Ms. Corbett loved Nacogdoches culture, including the art, music, and downtown vibe. She was a follower of pop culture, science fiction, Star Trek, Dr. Who, and was a huge fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. She also was into fitness and staying in shape. She was consistently in the gym, practicing yoga, and a health food coach.
Mary had a tremendous love for her family and grandchildren. She put others before herself, and would do anything to help out a friend. She spent lots of time with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Ms. Corbett was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Lee Roberts; and nephew, Daniel Gaudier.
She is survived by her sister, Deborah Gaudier and husband Dale; brother, John Corbett; daughters, Bonnie Roberts and Susan Roberts; grandsons, Henry Roberts-Coussons, Xander Roberts-Coussons, and Maxwell Roberts-Coussons; granddaughter, Brooke Roberts-Coussons; niece, Emily Gaudier; nephew, Edward Gaudier; and first husband, George Head.
Mary’s wishes are that people would volunteer their time to local environmental causes in her honor. She would’ve also liked people to vote Democratic in the next election.
