Teresa was born in Houston, Texas, to James and Mary Ellen Dorsey on October 27, 1955. She grew up in Pasadena, Texas and graduated from South Houston High School. Teresa visited Nacogdoches often during her youth to see grandparents, aunts and uncles. Following high school, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Stephen F. Austin State University. Teresa worked as a social worker for many years and later for The Nacogdoches Treatment Center. After retiring, she loved volunteering for Love INC in Nacogdoches, Texas.
She and her husband, Stanley (Stan) Turner met in Austin while students at the University of Texas. Teresa’s brother happened to be Stan’s next door neighbor and a romance quickly developed. After Stan’s graduation, they married and were thrilled to have the opportunity to move to Nacogdoches.
In 1984, Teresa gave birth to Sarah, her only child and the light of her life. As a young family, they joined and attended Westminster Presbyterian. Everyone who knew Teresa knows of her compassion, kindness, eager willingness to listen and help others with issues. Very few knew of her generosity and consistent donations to various charities. She enjoyed spending time with family, her beloved dogs, and reading and collecting recipes.
She is survived by her husband, Stan Turner, daughter, Sarah Burns and husband Matthew Burns of Douglass, TX. Brother and wife Richard and Mary Dorsey of Austin, TX. Sister-in-law Sherry Dorsey, Nieces and Nephews: Nick, Stephanie, Travis and Kelty Dorsey. Grandnieces: Charlee and Evelyn Dorsey, Scottie and Joey Shuck.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Ellen Dorsey, and her brother James Mark Dorsey, with great faith she looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones.
