A celebration of Katherine’s life is scheduled on Saturday, 3 Sept 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. John Bingham and Dr. Jeff McDonald officiating. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
As a small girl Mrs. Beckwith moved from Syracuse to Highland Park, MI, where she lived until attending the University of Georgia. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. At UGA Mrs. Beckwith was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and was chapter president for two years. It was at the University that she met the love of her life and future husband, the late Col. Charlie A. Beckwith, founder of Delta, America’s Anti-Terrorist unit. Mrs. Beckwith became a devoted military wife moving numerous times during the course of their marriage. They raised three girls and retired in Austin Texas. Following the death of her husband Col. Beckwith, Mrs. Beckwith moved to Nacogdoches to be near her daughter where she has been a resident for the past 14 years. Mrs. Beckwith had been a member of several genealogical organizations to include Colonial Dames of America, Colonial Dames 17th Century, and the French Huguenots. She was an active member of Nacogdoches Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and before coming to Nacogdoches was active in the Austin Woman’s Parliament Club. Mrs. Beckwith was a gourmet cook, talented needle pointer, seamstress and knitter. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Open Door class. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a joy to the many friends and family she touched in her lifetime.
Mrs. Beckwith is survived by her daughters, Connie Howe and husband Paul Howe of Nacogdoches, Margaret Kazmierski and husband Mike Kazmierski of Reno, NV, and Charlotte Beckwith of Houston. Her grandchildren are Patrick Wann and his wife Amber, SrA Mary Howe, USMA Cadet Zack Kazmierski, Claire Kazmierski and Sidney Schnitzer.
