Joyce S Brown

Joyce Self Brown was born in Cushing, Texas to parents William Oscar and Frankie Harrell Self. She met Lester D. Brown in Nacogdoches, Texas while enjoying an evening playing a round of 42. Lester and Joyce married on May 22, 1947 in Nacogdoches, Texas. They were blessed with three children-Marshall Lee, Jo Nell and Danny Lin. Joyce was a faithful member of Union Cross Missionary Baptist church of Nacogdoches, Texas for over 56 years.

She enjoyed music, sewing, cooking for the family, and spending quality time with her extended family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed caring for them and spending as much time as possible with them. She attended as many of their activities as possible. Joyce blessed her grandchildren with beautiful homemade quilts, and a cookbook of her family’s favorite recipes.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester D. Brown; infant son, Danny Lin Brown; siblings, Juanita Wingate, William Oscar (Bud) Self, Jr., Kenneth Hubert Self, George Self, and Andrew Page all of Nacogdoches, Texas; and great-grandson, Joseph Cole Dunnavant of Tatum, Texas.

Those left to cherish her memory include brother, James Self and wife Betty of Trinity, Texas; children, Marshall Lee Brown and wife Sherry of Tatum, Texas, Jo Nell Haltom, and husband Butch of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Reynolds and husband Ryan of Bullard, Texas, Amanda Dunnavant and husband Clay of Tatum, Texas, Ben Boyett and Becca of Nacogdoches, Texas and, Amy Leigh Brown of Tatum, Texas; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hadley, Katie, Lizzy, Addy, and Brylee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation for Joyce will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.

Joyce will be laid to rest in Friendship Cemetery, FM 343, Nacogdoches, TX 75964.

Serving as pallbearers are Ben Boyett, Ryan Reynolds, Clay Dunnavant, Bill Wingate, Wesley Self and Donnie Self .
