He was born December 31, 1928, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to parents Jess Stinson and Mae (Hodges) Stinson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Bro. Bobby King officiating. Interment will follow at Eden Cemetery, located on FM 225 near Douglass, Texas.
Mr. Stinson spent his early years working on the family’s small farm. His family later moved to Beaumont, Texas, where Murphy found a job at Magnolia Oil (now Mobil Oil) in Beaumont.
He married his late wife Rosie Dorman in the late 1940’s and was later drafted in the Army during the Korean War. After leaving the Army, he and Rosie settled in Port Arthur, then Nederland, and finally Douglass, Texas, where Murphy retired in 1987.
His hobbies included fishing, gardening, and working on lawn mowers. He would even fix his neighbor’s lawn mowers for free because he enjoyed doing it so much. His neighbors were his extended family, and they loved and cared for each other. His garden was legendary.
Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary Stinson; and brother, Marvin Stinson.
He is survived by his niece, Jeanette Putbres and husband Bob; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Murphy had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in Mr. Stinson’s name to The Humane Society of Nacogdoches, 3211 NW Stallings Drive, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.
