My heart was broken this morning. While in church my mind went back to my days with Phil and Lydia. And my wife and I immediately did a search for them on social media and the internet. I had no idea that Phil had passed on to be with our Lord. The Pegg's were a bottomless blessing to our lives back when we lived in Nacogdoches. Phil was such a gentle soul. He encouraged, inspired, prayed for and taught us, and arranged for me to be part of a ministry of helps trip to Haiti….something that opened my eyes to so much and that I will never forget. I shared that trip with a small group, including his wife, Lydia, who was such a source of strength for all who knew her. To the family, we are so sorry that we did not know Phil had passed. We would have been there to honor and say goodbye to him. We WILL still get to do that, though, when we see him in Heaven. Phil Pegg…one of the most Godly and wonderful men I have ever known. We love you and will catch up when we see you again.

My deepest condolences to the family.  I knew Captain Phil from Caribbean or should I say, Virgin islands yahoo group we all were in many many years ago. 
When the group closed, I lost touch with Captain Phil, but eventually, I found him on another social media, Facebook and Instagram. We reunited our communication and our shared interest for the Virgin Islands and I kept up with his postings about his doctor visits, but somehow along the way, we lost touch. This morning I saw his name pop up as a contact, but there was no picture and I got concerned. I don’t know if the family will ever see this, but I just wanted to extend my deepest condolences and pray that you all are healing a year later and you will always have your fondest memories of Captain Phil. He was a special, kind person. May his soul rest in peace and power. Elaine 

I can’t believe Phil is gone. He was very instrumental in forming the relationship that I have with Christ today. He had a quiet strength about him that I feel only comes with time and experience. His faith in the Lord was unshakable and absolute. I will miss Phil and. I thank God that I got to know him and his wonderful family. To the Pegg family, I love you guys. I carry you all in my heart. 

In ten lifetimes, I would not have been able to repay you for the love and wisdom you shared with me and the kids. From the day I met you, it was only kindness, the type of kindness that can only be described as divine. Thank you Dad for your teachings, for your stories, for Erik and for being the type of Grandpapi that loved with all his heart. We miss you dearly. 

What do you say when your best friend since the third grade passes on to glory?  

I say,  "Thank you Lord!" 

Thank you for giving me my  truest friend:  The one who was always there; who always had me high on his priority list and close to his heart.  Thank you that I was ever on his prayer list and on Lydia's too.  He could spin a yarn, make me laugh at myself, and recall details of every major and minor incident of our entire life-long relationship.  

Too, throughout his life Phil was a true and faithful, humble servant of Christ.  So, thank you God for loving Phil and loving us through him.

A COUSIN'S MEMORIES

Born in the same Hometown of Port Huron, Michigan I was fortunate to have spent many special times with Phil. Even though jobs, careers, military duties and families separated us for long periods of time we remained close friends throughout the years. We shared a love of the Caribbean, sailing and ministry having both chosen vocations as missionaries in the Islands. We used to talk for hours sharing stories of our lives and mission work in the Caribbean. Of course, I could never match the exciting adventures he would share of his time in the Navy and other civilian endeavors. Phil had a rich and memorable life but is known more for his love of people and for the God he loved and served. Phil was always looking to offer spiritual guidance to all who were fortunate to find themselves in his company. Until we meet again cousin.
