Mrs. Pennington was born December 19, 1933, in the Attoyac Community of Nacogdoches County to Andrace Pantalion and Winnie Young Pantalion.
Devoted to the Catholic church, she also enjoyed quilting and taking care of the needs of her family and those around her. Helen enjoyed maintaining her independence as long as possible and was very generous with her family and loved ones. She enjoyed cooking and savoring good food and fellowship with her family and friends. Her great sense of humor helped her keep everyone entertained. She enjoyed outdoor activities and fishing and at one time she and her husband operated Pendleton Harbor Marina & Campground on Toledo Bend in Sabine County.
Helen was a perfectionist and took pride in whatever tasks she was performing in life.
Her survivors include her daughter, Kay Carson and husband Tom of Sweeny, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Clinton and wife Amy of Lake Jackson, Kit Carson and wife Melissa of Clute, and Kely Carson of Freeport; great-grandchildren, Ashley Carson of Webster, Stella Clinton of Lake Jackson, Feyd Barker and Fynley Barker, both of Freeport; brothers, Hollis Pantalion and wife Selma of San Antonio, Allen Pantalion and wife Barbara of Zwolle, Louisiana, and Rayford Pantalion and wife Debbie of Humble; a special niece, Winnie Remedies and husband Phillip “Coon” of Zwolle; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis “Hap” Pennington, and a sister, Louise Lester.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 2508 Appleby Sand Road in Nacogdoches, with Monsignor James E. Young officiating. Rosay will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas.
