Mr. Frank Tsutomu Funai, age 91, passed away on January 23, 2016 at his residence in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was the youngest of eight children born to Kametaro and Kane Funai in Redmond, Washington on May 27, 1924.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors at 3:00 pm with Dr. Allen Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on January 26 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Frank was a graduate of Ogden High School in 1944 and shortly after joined the United States Army to serve his country during World War ll. He met Lena Brooker in 1960 who became his loving wife for over 52 years.
Frank spent his first career as a Poultry Technician, traveling many places his work would lead him. He had an extremely good work ethic and felt most comfortable when he was busy. He and Lena raised five young men and also opened their home to foreign exchange students. He took great joy in his second career as a bus driver for the Nacogdoches School District. He drove children around for 12 years before retiring at the age of 89! He loved being generous with treats for his bus kids, and he had a knack for finding useful items to share with all.
When he allowed himself free time you might find him bowling, fishing, or looking to add to his various collections. He supported the First Baptist Church and enjoyed his bible study. Frank will be remembered and missed by many.
Mr. Funai is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cart Funai, George Funai, Aubrey Funai; and sister, Alice Waterer.
Frank is survived by his wife, Lena; sons, Clark Funai and wife Mackenzie, Glenn Funai and wife Michelle, Todd Funai and wife Gemma, Lane Funai, Benjamin Funai; twelve grandchildren; sisters, Lilly Uyeda, May Otani; brother, Tosh Funai; and numerous nieces and nephews.
