

Efrain "Frank" Serrano, 90, passed away on March 22, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on September 14, 1934, in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, he lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.
Frank proudly served in the United States Army for 22 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. His military career was distinguished by bravery and sacrifice, earning him a Purple Heart for his service during the Korean War and two Bronze Service Stars for his contributions in the Vietnam War. His dedication to fellow veterans continued beyond active duty through involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Following retirement from the military, Frank embarked on a second career that spanned multiple roles within the Copperas Cove School District, McGraw Edison, First Federal Savings, and Commercial State Bank. His work ethic and integrity left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
Faith played an important role in Frank’s life. As a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he found purpose in serving others and strengthening his community. His generosity extended beyond formal organizations; he was always willing to lend a helping hand or share wisdom gained from years of experience.
Frank was deeply devoted to family. He shared 56 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Anna Walther Serrano, who preceded him in death along with his parents. His legacy continues through his children: Eugenie “Jeannie” Serrano and significant other Jim Pitts of Timpson, Texas; Mathias “Benny” and Jan Serrano of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; and Efrain and wife Patricia Serrano of Nacogdoches, Texas.
His grandchildren—Mathias “Matt” and wife Amie Serrano; Jenna Shay Serrano and husband Andy Smith; Stephen and wife Jennie Serrano; Lora and husband Brian Means; Christina Martin and fiancé Derrick Grant; and Courtney Rodgers and significant other Daniel Murray—were a source of immense pride. Frank also cherished his great-grandchildren: Gavin and Gunner Means; Emmy, Easton, and Ella Rodgers; and Baylee Serrano.
Frank is also survived by his sisters Carmen Iris Fuentes and Annie Montes.
Beyond professional achievements and military honors, Frank found joy in simple pleasures—BBQing for loved ones and taking walks with his favorite companion, Panda. These moments reflected his warmth and love for family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home (5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965), followed by a Rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (1422 County Rd 724, Nacogdoches, TX 75964).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Disabled American Veterans organization.
Frank’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. His strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
